Hey do you guy's use premium Motor oil in your T's or just plain old oil.

Max life valvoline cost's 2X as much as just plain old.
4.49 a quart vs. 2.29?

What do you guy's use.

Mobile 1 synthetic is about $20 for a 5 quart container at Walmart. I've been using it since 15k miles, changing oil at 5000 mile intervals. Currently, I have 185k on my truck. It runs great, and I never need to add oil between changes.

MaxLife is available in Synthetic, it's $5 per quart at Checker Auto.

I use Mobil 1 15w50 (usually pick it up at a yearly 2 for 1 sale, works out to be about $2.50/quart) and run it for between 10 and 15k miles. Every oil analysis I've done on this stuff over the years shows that at 10k miles the oil is at 80% or better (meaning it has a LOT of life left). I've only done a couple at 15k miles, but figgure the filter needs changing by then anyway (I always change the oil/filter once a year ~ if I make any mileage or not).

I've only got 16k miles on my T, with an oil change at 2k, then again at 7k (after moving, I figgured I taxed the engine pretty badly and it deserved fresh fluids).. I'll probably send the oil off to be checked at the 10k mile mark after the holidays. This thing is still at the full mark at 9k miles too... first 4-wheeled vehicle that's ever done that for me. smile

There is ZERO need to change synthetic oil any sooner than 10k miles... I've seen this time and time again. I'm 90% certain that 15k miles is safe and reasonable and willing to try going 20k miles sometime just to see what the oil analysis says.

Mobile 1 10W-30 changed every 5K. I understand you can go longer between changes, but for 20 bucks in oil and 4 bucks for an OEM filter, pretty cheap peace of mind IMHO.

It won't Hurt anything, but you may find that leaks develop, or oil consumption goes up (maybe, I doubt it if the T had even basic care). If that happens, just switch back to dino oil (or track down the leaks and fix them.. most people don't take that route though).

I bought my 1993 T100 4 x 4 new and it only has a TOTAL of 14k on it right now. Never in the salt. Bought a new Tundra about six weeks ago, so the T100 may never be driven again.

15W-50 seems like an extremely heavy oil to be running in a gas motor. That 50 weight may be too thick. If the manufacturer calls for a certain oil, 5W-30, 5w-20 etc, you better stick to what it calls for, otherwise the oil wont go where it should be, and if its too thin, it wont support the load the bearings place on it. You may want to read up on the design on bearings and such. Theres a whole process that involves designing the bearing for a certain load, but then you must calculate the right oil to support that load, as the bearings should make little to no metal to metal contact. The thicker weight oil supports the load better, but are you sure its getting to where it should be? Im sure the thicker oil holds up longer, but the first few thousand miles, that oil is probably not getting to where it should be. IMO theres no need to run any oil thicker than 10w-30 in newer motors if there is no sign of oil being burned. The tolerances are so tight, the thick oil may not be getting to where it should. This is particularly true on import motors, toyota, honda, isuzu, etc. There was a point when I thought the heavier oil was better for my truck, but then I sat in class and learned that heavier oil is not always good when things are still within spec.
