Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hello all, I'm getting hit with 50+ mph winds right now here in So Cal and I just lost a branch off one of my Poplar trees. Guess where it landed. Yep that's right on my 88 4Runner. The branch punched a hole in the top and head liner. I'm not to concerned about the liner but I want to get the top fixed quick. Does anyone have any tips or good links to possibly patching this thing before I just use it for an excuse to buy a soft top for it. Thanks in advance, Charles PANAMINTCHARLIE.COM ![[Linked Image]](http://www.panamintcharlie.com/pics/runnertop1-600.jpg)

Mesh and glass mebbee? I'd stop by a decent fiberglass/body shop to get some ideas.

Many of us have given away extra 4Runner tops for free just to get them out of the shop. Shouldn't be to hard to find one for cheap/free.

"Bondo" makes a fiberglass repair kit. Contains the resin and gel coating IIRC. If hole is substantial pickup some fiberglass matting to cover it.

If you want a DIY and learn something at teh same time go to a marine supply house and try to get a fiberglass repair kit. Bondos kit is ok but the marine quality fiberglass stuff (like west systems) is much higher quality. Then just google fiberglass repair and stuff like that.
Basically what you'll end up doing is remoiving the headliner... pushing all that damaged stuff back out and removing stuff that cant be saved... then reinforcing the whole backside with strips of fiberglass and epoxy (easier to do with the top off upside down). Then once the inside is repaired the outside will just be a matter of filling/sanding/painting. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />
