Hi,
I've been doing some searching around for a good set of brakes since my rotors are warped (vibrating when i brake). I have been reading on Gadget's website and he recommends the performence friction pads from autozone and the powerslot rotors. I did a search on the forum for this topic and it has gotten me a little confused. I've heard a a few people use the term "brembo powerslotted rotors". I did a search online and found that the only places that offered slotted rotors, physically slot the rotors themselves because the original brembos only come nonslotted and nondrilled. Is this true? Or am i missing something?

Also, a couple of questions on the lifetime pads offered by performance friction. I keep hearing that they are "lifetime" free replacement because of their warranty. But i did a search on autozone.com for the 96 landcruiser part # 5024 and it says only a 2 year warranty. Is this a typo or did i miss something here as well?

One last thing... i dont want to start another debate here. But slotted? or crossdrilled?

I think i've been hearing more recommendations for slotted since crossdrilled supposedly reduces the amount of surface area for braking.

thanks

Body Damage is Cool
Don't take everything you read on the net as gospel, it's just someone's opinion.

If you wheel your truck you'll find slotted/drilled rotors will get packed w/mud, fine gravel, etc. Fine for sports cars, but for offroad?

I tried Perf Fric pads on my Maxima, totally not impressed.
Went back to good quality normal pads.

Ask Autozone about their warranty, or try Pep Boys or Advance Auto.

Lifetime garranty - lifetime of what ? the car, the owner ? or the pad ?

And that's my opinion - aka, my .02

Ok... since i'm having trouble finding slotted brembo rotors. I'm going to assume that the slotted once are made by powerslot. Since i've made up my mind on those, where's a good place i can get them for a good price?

thanks

When I get around to changing mine, I'll run the solid Brembos rotors and PF pads. So far I've got almost 100k on my stock one's and they are barely worn..

Wow! You must never use your brakes. Do you have a manual tranny or something? Or do you just do a lot of highway driving? My rotors are yet warped AGAIN! plus they dont stop too well after stop and go traffic. I think the stealer overtorqued them again when they used the airtool.

yeah there is something to be said about having a 5speed. I have 98k on my truck and I just checked my brakes lastnight. I am well over 50%. I was pretty suprised to see that.

Also I have to agree, if you plan to go offroad at all, nix the slotted. Go with Solid.

I agree that slotted or drilled rotors are not the way to go. Use Brembo rotors and your choice of pads. I personally chose OEM pads on our 4Runner since I don't want noise. On my truck, I used regular Autozone lifetime pads. They were very aggresive at first, but calmed down and feel pretty good. After 20k miles, they are about 1/3 worn. The rotors on my '89 truck are original after 210k miles. The 4Runner's rotors were warped badly at 95k miles.

The warranties on brake pads are this, atleast at advance where I work. We only sell Limited Lifetime Pads except for the ceramic pads, though the bendix ceramic pads are limited liftemtime as well. Limited Lifetime refers to this, if the pad fails because of a manufacturers defect, then it will be replaced once. Lifetime is not meant to include normal wear and tear, if it did, then the companies that make brake pads would be non existant. But, many customers and sales people at the store dont realize that and when someone mentions their brakes wore out in 20,000 miles with the cheap $15 Limited lifetime pads, they think they get another set for free, which they arent supposed to, but then the customer gets mad if the manager says no and the customer gets a free set anyways, or the manager doesnt understand the warranty. My oppinion is this, get the best set you can afford if you plan on keeping the vehicle, apply the no squeak stuff to the back and you will be set.

I dont plan on doing any offroading. The heaviest offroading i may do is a dirt road or grass. So... i think i'll be ok for the most part.
On the lifetime warranty... ok... sounds good... i was just reading on Gadget's website and going by what he said. I was thinking to myself... "how would they make any money in the long run?". Even the autozone website says 2 yr limited warranty now. So...
But $39 for a pair is still a good price compared to OEM and the TRD price.
I will order a set of rotors and pads asap! I think since i wont be doing any offroading, the slotted will be ok. I've heard nothing but good news about them.
The last thing to do is to adjust the rear brakes.... anyone have any idea how to do that? I know you're supposed to turn a screw and it will go "click click" until where it's s supposed to be. But... can someone shed some light on where the screw is? also, when i clean the dust off with a brush... where do i put the dust? Is it safe to leave it in the driveway and let the rain wash it away? or is it bad for the environment?

thanks
