Getting the Wheeling Fever

Ok, my cruise control finally went out. Ever since I got a hold of it (2002), the cruise control would only work if I held the accel switch on the lever for like 30-45 seconds. Do these things work by vaccum? Does anybody have any suggestion as to where to start diagnosing? I have checked vacuum line and so far everything looks ok. Any ideas would be a big help.
