THE SEARCH FUNCTION NEEDS TO DEFUALT TO MAX DATES!!!!!!!!!!

No, it doesn't. Set it to what you need. Start with a smaller timeframe and increase it if you need to. If every search ran through all the available posts, it would just suck the resources out of the board.

The best and easiest way to search is to focus on what terms you are searching for. Searching for a What is the biggest tire size? is useless. You will get every post that has any, some or all of those words. You must use only the important terms. Using the + sign before terms means they will be included, no matter what. Using the ".." to define phrases is important too.

So, we can go from What is the biggest tire size? to +tire +size +largest You can replace "largest" with "biggest" or "maximum" to see the different results. Also search outside of the box. For example, if you are looking for information on trailing arms (my best attempt at making this Montero related), you could also search for the term, "fishplated" or "fishplate" as there is plenty of discussion about trailing arms that also has information on trailing arms.

Trust me, it works. It just takes a little bit of finesse. Blaming the search engine or the website is not a good excuse. If you have problems, ask a moderator. We are all here to help you with things like this. If you can learn how to use the search function, it means you can use it in the future too, instead of going down the same frustrating path, not getting the information you are looking for and then being told to search.

All of us here at 4x4Wire welcome new people and want everyone to be helped as much as possible. But, to keep some of the old-timers happy, it means that those who are new to the scene should exert some effort at answering their own questions first, if only out of respect. Just like us, those community members who take the time to answer questions, often the same ones over and over, are volunteering their time and effort. To a degree, we must keep them happy.

Finally, a method that works well is to not just give the blanket "Use the search feature" answer, but to do a quick search and post the link to the results to get someone started or just give an example of a search string that works.

Thanks,
Michael

What search function?

Oh, and my truck quit the other day. How do I fix it?....

Truthfully, I sometimes (but damn seldom) come up with something new to add to my previously disseminated misinformation in response to an oft repeated question. However, I doesn't happen often enough not to want to say "What did you find when you searched????".

Kary, I feel your pain....

You mean like this?: http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/tech/wheel_faq/

Yeah, it sure would be good if someone took the time to do something like that... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> (I will admit that section of the web site is difficult to find (and I'm not being sarcastic)).

A simple and straight forward tech FAQ is very much needed.

Like someone suggested (DougB?), let's start a sticky thread to begin with. I would say that it should become an HTML page in the tech write-ups ultimately. We could all put in what we think needs to be there. I would suggest that all new sub-topics to it the post with bold faced wording on that sub-topic, and that any responses or additions to the same start out with the same bold facing. This would make it infinitely easier later to cull through it all and edit for a formla document. Phrase the sub-topic the way that the FAW question would likey be phrased.

Roll Me Over
If some of you had run a search prior to posting another "search before asking" thread, you would have seen that this subject has been covered many times over. Please use the search function before posting more threads on "please use the search function". Thank you.

Sorry, had to. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />
