THE SEARCH FUNCTION NEEDS TO DEFUALT TO MAX DATES!!!!!!!!!!

No, it doesn't. Set it to what you need. Start with a smaller timeframe and increase it if you need to. If every search ran through all the available posts, it would just suck the resources out of the board.

The best and easiest way to search is to focus on what terms you are searching for. Searching for a What is the biggest tire size? is useless. You will get every post that has any, some or all of those words. You must use only the important terms. Using the + sign before terms means they will be included, no matter what. Using the ".." to define phrases is important too.

So, we can go from What is the biggest tire size? to +tire +size +largest You can replace "largest" with "biggest" or "maximum" to see the different results. Also search outside of the box. For example, if you are looking for information on trailing arms (my best attempt at making this Montero related), you could also search for the term, "fishplated" or "fishplate" as there is plenty of discussion about trailing arms that also has information on trailing arms.

Trust me, it works. It just takes a little bit of finesse. Blaming the search engine or the website is not a good excuse. If you have problems, ask a moderator. We are all here to help you with things like this. If you can learn how to use the search function, it means you can use it in the future too, instead of going down the same frustrating path, not getting the information you are looking for and then being told to search.

All of us here at 4x4Wire welcome new people and want everyone to be helped as much as possible. But, to keep some of the old-timers happy, it means that those who are new to the scene should exert some effort at answering their own questions first, if only out of respect. Just like us, those community members who take the time to answer questions, often the same ones over and over, are volunteering their time and effort. To a degree, we must keep them happy.

Finally, a method that works well is to not just give the blanket "Use the search feature" answer, but to do a quick search and post the link to the results to get someone started or just give an example of a search string that works.

Thanks,
Michael
