While drivin my gf 99 amigo 3.2 dohc auto(with my 32X11.50 mudders on), i couldnt help but punch it where ever i go. Well, i got a little carried away, turned left at a light and gave it a little too much gas. What happened was fished tailed it coming on to a 55 mph road. I steered it like a champ and and straightened her out. Well, since that got me going a little i had to see the real power of this thing, the torque. I stopped at the light(dry road) push on the brake and the gas and lit up the tires. I was like wooo, this is cool. (Remember, i have 32X11.50 mudders on) So this got me thinking, what kind of power does this thing have, need, and how much can it handle?

shhhh dont tell my gf

So, i have a 205 hp, 215 ft lbs of torqe right?
another thing, do we have a killer torque curve or what? i feel like i have a 2 stage VETEC system in there. At 4100 rpm, it feels like it just opens up big time, then 5000 comes and im screamin with some good power. Do all you people with the 3.2 dohc have this torque curve? or is it a computer thing?

I have noticed that some full sized trucks have a dana 44 in the back. Do we really need a dana 44, 31 spline (correct me if im wrong please) shafts and a thick ring gear?
why would we need that much stregnth? what kind of power can these take?

The tranny, ive heard the manual can only handle up to 250 hp, right? What about the auto 4l30e? Ive always thought of the tranny being the weakest link. Ive always heard the diffs being the weakest link, and have actually witnessed it being the weakest link.

ive been heavily thinking about putting a supercharger in this thing, but am worried about the problems and the extra money ill need to put into it. so hear is my thoughts about putting a supercharger in

supercharger $~3400
intercooler $??
msd ignition $??
high octane fuel
breakage in parts $infinite

wanna add to this?

so ladies and gentlemen, what do you have to say about all this? do you guys understand the power of these things?

I'll be the first to say the power is nice. Good torque as well. The 3.2 dohc is a good little engine. It feels good to mash the gas and get some response.

I'm comparing my wifes 98 Passport with 255/70/16's to my 88 Trooper with the 33's.

Alpine makes a kit that a few people have put on. I doubt you will have any problems with broken parts, not with street driving. Not unless you are going to go drag racing with slicks and be launching off the line. (that would look pretty cool, a rodeo at the dragstrip)

Ask Nazrat about his, he has one on his VX. I've riden in it, it will scoot.

I think the two-stage intake manifold runners have a lot to do with that.

That's an understatement!

Maybe Tad didn't use quite as much skinny pedal with Joe as his passenger...
To describe my ride in that silver beast, replace the word 'scoot' with 'HAUL ' !!!
It's actually pretty cool to look out of the side window and watch as an entire forest turns into a non-descript fuzzy green blur!

As for the Bigpoppa family Rodeo-Portà
That thing has taken off in front of my 5-speed / SOHC 3.2 Rodeo, and left me like I was sitting still. --- Between the DOHC engine, and the auto/torque converter, it has A WHOLE LOT MORE PEP than mine!

Cheers!

Jeff, Harvey street? (inside joke kevan doesnt understand )

What about the axles on these things? we have 31 spline right? Isnt 35 spline the biggest you can get? What kind of power do you guys think we can throw at these?

Two intake runners per cylinder, one long, one short. At low rpm the long intake runners are open, enhancing torque. At higher rpm (I wanna say around 3000 rpm but could be wrong) the short runners take over for enhanced breathing/horsepower. Bottom line is it gives a flatter torque/hp curve.

Intake runners ehh? I cant picture these in my head. All i can see is a normal manifold it the injectores then the valves. anyone have a pic of these in the engine? do many engines have these?

My 99 Trooper had them, and AFAIK the 99 Amigo/Rodeo does too...not sure when Isuzu started using them.
