Its not so much the cost of the SC, its the cost of the speeding tickets that will come with it.

LOL! I got a lot of speeding tickets when I got my SCer on. I think I got 4 tickets in 2 months. Then I started going out to the 1/4 mile drag strip to have fun without the tickets. I have the Alpine Developments SC and my best run this summer was a 15.26, also using the trans-interceptor, and PowerVault muffler (PV2) otherwise stock. Before SCer and I ran 16.5.

The trans interceptor allows you to adjust the line pressure, which makes it feel like there isn't a pause inbetween shifts its like first gear then BAM second gear, it allows you to carry more revs through the shift. It also really helped on steep hills, it would shift quick so you didn't loose much momentum up the hill. Now with my VX I could only turn the line pressure up 10% before I got really hard shifts and had to turn it back down.

It just made it feel more racey then stock, but made little differance in the 1/4 mile.

The power is even more fun with the right muffler! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

This is going to sound crazy, but lately I've had the extreme displeasure of working on an 84 Pontiac Grand Prix with a Chebby 305...I got it running yesterday and took it for a spin, and my 3.2-equipped RS would smoke that thing easily. In the 305's defense, I'm guessing that it's extremely tuned-down, being installed in a geezermobile. The exhaust manifolds, for example, are extremely restrictive-looking.
Still, the scoreboard remains:
3.2 Trooper RS: 1
305 Grand Prix: 0
<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

*edit: I just wanted to add that the Grand Prix is in excellent running condition with only 76K miles...I was only fixing a no-start due to a bad thingamagotchy. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The 305 was never a very high performance engine.
Even in the Camaro's, it was very weak compared to it's slightly big brother. It was a good inexpensive upgrade in the Camaro from the V6 and was still economically priced for those who didn't want to spring for the 350. Eventually, I think the 305 was completely replaced with the V6 in the Camaro and the only two options were the V6 and the 350.
It was a pretty weak workhorse in the full size trucks also.
I think on average, the 305 has been rated around 180hp...

The L98 in the 90-92 F body was rated at 220 hp, adn teh 350 L98 @ 245....

It is a slightly different motor than a standard 305/350...

my 2 cents..
