Look at the engine tag under the hood it's right there. It most likly is 4.625, 4.88 are very very rare.

I'm not the expert on this but It was my understanding that there are no aftermarket gears. We have front and rear lockers for some models and some custom xfer case gears and that is it.

If you can swap in the full diff & housing, that would be pretty cool to see especially if it's a SAS.

Be sure it's as strong/big, if not stonger/bigger than the stock unit. I know bigger does not always = stronger but you get the idea.

You've probbally got 4.62's, and they will work fine with 4.56's

Umm, isn't this what MisterBishi did? Swap in a Toyota front??

Two MRI's and a CAT scan....it's confirmed. I'm just not right in the head.

Interesting post, but out of four tags under the hood and a couple on the door frame of my '88 I've found nothing even hinting at gears or common ratios.

As I understand it, one can count the teeth on a ring gear (pulled, say, from a junkyard - wouldn't want to pull apart my diffs just to count teeth) and determine its ratio. I don't know *what* equals *what*, but that's what I'd heard. I'd also heard that ring gears are likely stamped with the ratio on them, but again, that's hearsay...not firsthand experience. I'll let you know what I find when I have my '91 front diff in hand next week or so.

Capt, Its there on the firewall to the left of the aircleaner, It list the engine ,tranny and axle. It say 4625. I would not lie to you <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I did double check my 88 just in case I had a memory lapse.

Roll Me Over
IF you have a Dodge Raider the tag is riveted to the core support on the passenger side near the radiator.

IF you own a Mitsubishi Montero the tag is on the firewall inside the engine compartment, below the windsheild.

I don't doubt you see it there...I just haven't spotted it yet on mine. I'll take another look when I get home. I didn't scour the firewall as I perhaps should have. I mainly looked at all the other labels which didn't have k r @ p in the way. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

If I find it there, remind me I owe you a <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle! The data plate was right where you said it'd be. I didn't see it before because it was camouflaged in muck. Once I wiped it down, it was right in front of my eyes - "4625".

Thanks gang...I learned something today! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
