Seems like a lot, but every penny was worth it.

Mark had told me about the ground-down circlip pliers and I passed that info on to the shop. I didn't know, however, that a piece of hardware (a fork or something) had to be machined-down slightly and when they got everything back together they couldn't get it into 4-low. They were able to remedy it, though, without taking the t-case back apart.
