Swapping bodies with all associated wiring harnesses easier? Probably more like swapping one hornets nest for another... but then again, I have pretty limited experience with that. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Not to derail the conversation, but if a V6 would have trouble fitting inside an SWB, how did the guys with small block V8's get those in there? Seems like the block would be a good bit longer than a 6, but I don't know any details of such a swap.

the guys with Small Block v8s moved the radiator support foward, or hacked the firewall out.

OR ran with no water pump and acessories on the front of the motor. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

HMMM I need to go measure my friends Lt1!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I would be willing to bet that the engine bay in the GenIIs is smaller than the GenIs... that's just from eyeing it though. The 3.5L and 3.0L blocks seem to share many things in common. That goes across the board through all generations of Montero - many things remain the same throughout.

As I recall the guy that put the "police Package" 350 with a 700r4 in his Gen2 with the Adapter in the transfer case did not have much problem with the fitment.

Looked like that 350 sat right down in there. We need gen 2 engine bay measurements.

Curts; If you mean "helix" he cut the hood latch and most of the core support out in the rig. He used hood pins to hold the hood down. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Lemme know what measurements you need (within reason) I seem to be finding myself in the garage quite a bit lately <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

Draw on this if you need to:

The 3.5 still doesn't use a transfer case with a low range that would be considered good by most here.

Frank is actively pursuing that and has the prototype in his truck. 66% reduction over standard <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" /> Last I heard they will start a batch very soon.

A guy in Aus just finished this 3.5 swap check out the outerlimits4x4 board for more info but he swaped the engine into his 89 SWB. New exhaste manifolds and some other fab had to be done.
