wow you guys scare me! I have been reading the post on this site and I love it, I have had a 1985 Monty now for about 8 months, and I have to admit I have fallen in love with this little truck, it's S/W/B 2 dr 2.6 5spd with limited slip rear diff & a bouncy seat!(I've had offers on the seat!)I bought the Monty for $300 & invested $40 for a right frt fender(I was lucky enough to find the fender, same color from a 1987 in a local bone yard)I purchased new lower ball joints & inner & outer cv boots & installed them, I then hit the trails with my buddies from work,(it's like being in the middle of a Jeep jamboree) I got a little greif at first but that stopped when every time they looked in their mirrors of their Jeeps the little Monty was there. I have had it out about 6 times on some great AZ trails from moderate to difficult & came back in great shape every time, what scares me when reading the post is what great lenths some Monty owners go to to keep thes great little trucks on the trail it seems you cant just go to the local Auto zone for parts & there doesn't seem to be much aftermarket parts avail any tips on parts sources would be appreciated

Welcome to the Wire
I have had my truck since I was 16 I'm now 25. I got it for a b-day gift. My dad had a new Raider in 87 and it was the first thing I ever drove. I have been hooked ever since then. I like my truck, because you don't see them all the time. I have been getting the sold axle swap itch, thank LandRaider Those pics you posted did not help

It's a pretty challenging swap. Can be lots of $$ too. We will see if it performs well no the trail though. My 40 degree Superflex 1310 u Jointed, 10 inch slip long travel Driveshaft will be here ina few days.

Thats alot of coin.
I would imagine that you could buy all the tools, learn how, and do it yourself for 3k total.
The best thing to do is get yourself a Mentor, and learn from them. MUCH MUCH eaiser than going it alone.

nothing drastic not trying to turn it in to a rock crawler or anything, thinking about maybe 31x10.50x15 tires and a slight lift maybe a add a leaf & crank the torsion bars I mostly just want to keep the 2.6 reliable it has 139 k on it and just want to keep it trans & transfer case in good trail shape once again really like this truck cant believe it became avail at the price I got it for after I replaced the fender the rest of the truck is straight as a arrow & interior too! it is just sporting a little Arizona pinstriping now after the 4x4 trips but thats a badge of honor!

Welcome to our little corner of the internet. Not much you need to do to get that mild a lift. 31's will probably fit stock. Longer shackles may also get you a mild lift and it's been discussed before so you can find it in the tech forum by doing a quick search.
