i thought amps were filled with epoxy like ignition coil boxes, like MSD for this very reason.

i thought amps were filled with epoxy like ignition coil boxes, like MSD for this very reason. Nope, none that I have seen. In some amps, transformer coils and other vibration-prone parts are filled with silicone caulk or epoxy like this, but never the whole circuit board. A couple reasons they don't do this: First, heat dissipation is very important in these amps. Second, filling them with epoxy would make them difficult, if not impossible, to service and repair. Besides, it would cost more.

Thanks for the info in fitment, the amp is only 2" high. i didn't intend to start an argument either, i just wanted to point out hat though it may not be ideal, it isn't always a problem. I never had an amplifier in more than 15 years fail because of vibration related causes, but i realize it can be a problem, maybe i should have phrased some things different. Anyway thanks for the information on the location I'll post some pictures if I decide to mount my amp under there. I will probably have to address the heat issue with over 1200 watts available in the small area. The amplifer was installed in the sportage before, but I needed the room for my current job. I suppose now it is time to get creative with ideas for a new sub enclosure.

I would love to see pics if you mount your amp under the seat there. I'm gonna post pics soon of the fiberglass enclosures I made for my door speakers Nice to see there are others out there interested in putting a good system in a Sportage.

How deep is that cavity? It doesn't look tall enough for what I would like to use it for. Too bad. That'd be a great place for a couple of Optima Red Tops. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I do like the tools idea - that would be my second choice. It'd be nice to reclaim some of my cargo space and the leg room in the back.
