The OFFICIAL RULES

Registration as a User implies acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
- Participants shall not post any material likely to cause offence, that is protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right - without the express permission of the owner of such copyright - or that contains personal phone numbers or addresses.
- Participants may not use the Forums to post or transmit advertisements or commercial solicitations of any kind.
- The appropriate Forum Moderator has the right to edit, censor, delete or otherwise modify any posted message.
- This web site does not verify or guarantee the accuracy of the material posted to the Forums or bear any responsibility for any loss, damage, or other liabilities caused by any posted message.

The Moderators won't censor posts as long as we behave in a decent manner, no name calling or flaming; it just won't be tolerated. Only positive contributionsà

NO blatant advertising. These forums cost real money. The people who come here don't want to be solicited, and the owners don't want to pay for it.

Just keep in mind these forums are free for the public, any 10 year old kid can come to the site and see exactly what is posted.

A lot of people are going straight to the forums these days with out doing some simple research on there question. We are all very happy to help every one out there to the best of our abilities, but it becomes quite tedious continually going over and over the basics to the newer members. There is a Huge source of information available here at 4x4wire. Please Check out the Jeep tech pages, most of the simple questions can be answered by them, and more. If you have difficulty understanding them, go ahead and post asking about the specific problem you are having.

Also, there is a distinction between forums. Talk is really for... talk.. EX. I just went to trail X and had a great time, jeep drove well, only broke a small number of parts... ETC. Talk is the place we want opinions and chit chat. I really won't even police talk posts that arenÆt about jeeps unless they are just stirring up too much trouble... Post like Hey my son was born last night, or did you see that last episode of _______ I thought it was cool.. In talk IÆll let anything go down as long as it isn't against the rules.

Tech usually has to do with repairing or getting info on specific parts. EX. How many splines on my T-case input shaft? My jeep is making a clunking noise under bumps on right turns. I popped the clutch really hard the other day and now it vibrates going down the road at 50 MPH.... ETC

We'd like all the tech questions in tech and talk in talk so that if someone goes about performing a search they can narrow down there results in categories of talk and tech....

Some of the even more common questions are posted below.

Again, the answer and a good explanation to most general knowledge questions can be found here . IE what is a locker? ; What is a CV drive shaft ETC. If you ære new to Jeeping or wrenching I HIGHLY recommend looking through this section.

What size tires will fit under my stock wrangler (87-95)?

30X9.5 will fight without rubbing. if you want the biggest meats that won't rub on any of the metal fender parts, 32X11.5's will fit, but they will rub the springs on a full lock turn, and seriously rub the plastic fender flair.

I put bigger tires on my jeep and now when i turn to the lock, my tires rub. how do i fix this?

Engine swaps.

WE get a lot of questions like; i have a 2.5 can i swap to a 4.0? or i need more power what do i need to do to swap in a V8?

2.5 to 4.0 is doable, but in order to remain functional and legal, a lot of wire are going to need to be spliced. Advance electrical knowledge is required, and experience helps as well. Also the 4 cylinders transmission will not hold up to a 6 cylinders. For manual transmissions an ax15 will need to accompany the new motor for an automatic, either a TF999 or 32RH. Generally you want to get the transmission and the engine and computer from the donor car. The transmission is garneted to fit the motor and the computer will be setup for the type of tranny behind the motor. For the average Joe an engine swap with the same functionality as stock is to complicated. If you really hate your 4 cylinder jeep, sell it and buy a 6 cylinder jeep.

V8Æs are even more difficult to swap. The stock driveline will not withstand a V8 and heavy throttle. Basically a V8 swap is a whole driveline swap. Te front and rear axles will not take the torque put out by a V8 for any length of time. New axles will need to be swapped in as well as everything else.

Advanced Adapters will have a bunch of adaptors to go from different types of motors to trannys to T-cases.

The link remains dead for the steering bump stops... See below for a picture that tells a thousand words. The arrow is pointing to the bolt with the welded nut on it and how adding a single or two flat washers will do well enough rather than getting a new bolt and nut and trying to set the steering bump stops yourself. This will limit your steering radius, but will keep your tires from rubbing/grabbing on your springs... Pictured is a 91 YJ with a 2.5" spring lift running stock wheels and 31x10.50 tires.
