Getting the Wheeling Fever
Toyota lists 3 axle ratios for the Tacoma. How do you know which one you have? They are: 3.58, 3.73, and 3.91. I assume 3.58 is 2-wheel drive models (except prerunner), 3.73 is non-TRD prerunner and 4x4, and 3.91 is TRD prerunner and 4x4. Anyone know if this is right? Thanks.

Hang on, we're goin for a ride!

Post your axle code and I'll look it up tonight. B03A is 4.10 2 pinion - mine.

Here's the codes, FWIW:
B03A=4.10
B04A or B=4.556
B05B=4.70
B06A=3.909
B06B=4.875

The last A=2 pinion, the B=4 pinion. Sometimes the combo determines the ratio with a given middle number.

Another one not often seen and documented;

B07A = 4.30

This is from my 01 Tacoma with 2.4l I4, 5 speed, 265/70-16 tires stock from the dealer. Ratio confirmed by jacking it up and counting driveshaft rotations.

An axle code sheet from the Toy dealer's parts guy. Toyota documentation. Thanks for that B07A number, I skipped that one because I thought it might be pretty rare, guess not.

Good to have the list handy when browsing the local boneyards... often a cheap way to regear.

Bringing this one back up b/c I thought I scored a deal on a 4.30 diff.

My '04 std cab 4-cyl 5-spd 4WD tacoma is B07A. My buddy has an '01 4-cyl 5-spd TRD Xcab w/ rear locker that is also B07A. I was told repeatedly that B07A = 3.91.

I am going to confirm the ratio this weekend by also jacking it up and counting revs. If this bears out, this is excellent news. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

That cant be right, no offense. The # code designates the ratio, for 06 to be 2 different ratios would be incorrect.

Here's a more accurate list, also 4.30 is a lot more common than you may think, same goes for the 3.58.
These are the most common if not all of the ratios that appear in Tacoma Prerunners and 4x4's.
02 = 3.58
03 = 4.10
04 = 4.56
06 = 3.91
07 = 4.30
