I have to wait until Monday to call the dealer, but someone notified me that as of 2000 or 2001, the traditional gear code is meaningless anyway - everything is B07A.

The gear code is in the 14-digit string above the gear, tranny, trim, paint code, usually starting with an R.

Not sure if this is true, so FWIW............

Must be that wheel change thing. I know in the TRD trucks at least when they went w/ 16" rims they went to 3.91 gears. I want to say I have seen the axle codes stamped on the door tag still but can't recall

That cant be right, no offense. The # code designates the ratio, for 06 to be 2 different ratios would be incorrect.

Here's a more accurate list, also 4.30 is a lot more common than you may think, same goes for the 3.58.
These are the most common if not all of the ratios that appear in Tacoma Prerunners and 4x4's.
02 = 3.58
03 = 4.10
04 = 4.56
06 = 3.91
07 = 4.30

Sorry, I disagree: the dealer documentation is quite specific. The 06 by itself does not guarantee the ratio. The combination with the pinion (spider) count and the numeric code was very specific in the Toyota list, and came out to different ratios.
