The on in the tranny counts the rotations of the driveshaft and translates that to electrical pulses and sends it to the speedometer. hate to nit pick but if it is not a sensor that measures vehicle speed than whatever is in the dash is not a vehicle speed sensor. that wouldn't make any sense.
