I don't remember when it was, but some time within the last three years there was a long tale about problems in finding a correct 4.3 TBI. Not only are there connector differences, there are linkage differences.
One of the primary people in the discussion has the screen name of joelpat. I will leave it to you to do the searching.

I remembered that discussion and that somebody made the effort to find the one that worked best. Having the name might help find it. I spent a fair amount of time searching for that post yesterday, if anyone else has any luck finding it, please link it here, thanks! Linked to Chris' writeup on the install, it would make a great resource for people looking at this mod. Jay Looked on car-parts.com too and most 4.3 TB's were in the $100-$150 range.

You will probably find a cheap TBI if you go to a yard and just pull one and say how much? My assumption is if they log it for viewing on car-part they put in a high price to include shipping and removal. Find a 4.3 tb and use your existing IAC motor, the TPS is spliced in. You are relocating your throttle cable bracket to the new TB. Find one with 5 vac ports, 4 in rear one in front.* Get one with your same throttle arm on backwards so you can just flip it 180, it really is just as simple as that. I am not sure what is the big problem with locating the "right" one. Maybe the 3.1 is simpler than the 2.8 in terms of vaccuum ports. Many post how they needed to drill and make more and all that crap, I did not find it necessary. I acually had 1 too many ports and had to plug one.

I am not sure what is the big problem with locating the "right" one. I think my problem is that there aren't that many junkyards around here. I admit I haven't been all that active at taking a Saturday and spending the whole day looking, but last one I was at had only two Troopers, both picked over to where they were barely recognizable. Looked at all the Astro vans and S10's (not many), didn't find a single one with a 4.3. Another yard, the guy didn't want to let me out to look until he knew what I wanted. When I told him I was looking for a 4.3 TB to swap onto my 2.8, he said he wouldn't sell it to me even if he had one because I wasn't just replacing what I had... (like you get a warranty with salvage parts!) If I was able to find a yard with 10 rigs with 4.3's and walk down the line comparing the TB's to pictures of mine, I'd probably be able to say 'Oh, I get it, this is the one'. Knowing which is the 'right' one (IE the right bracket to flip, etc. therefore requring less fabrication ability and knowledge like drilling the casting to add a vacuum port) makes it easier for those of us that want to make the mod, but are less sure of our mechanical abilities! We're (or at least I'M) more comfortable walking in and saying "I'm looking for a throttle body for a 93 S10 with a 4.3". As a mechanic, I make a decent engineer...I'm fair with tools, but need to follow instructions from someone who understands the whys and wherefores better then I do. So, I appreciate the help of folks like you, who understand it well enough that you don't think it's a big deal. You want three 240/120 single phase transformers wired for 208 three phase, I can deal with it. You want a 20 minute 1,000 shell fireworks show choreographed to music, I'm your man! Automotive stuff...I need a book, or fairly specific help! Jay

Jay,
You know that you and Ed Mc are practically neighbors - he is in Poulsbo. You might get together with him as he is a great source of info on Isuzu engines. He might also know of yards on the "wrong" side of the Sound to check out.

Shelton is 'bout an hour's drive away, "mas o menos". I do know of a couple of places where there should be pretty cheap parts, one I just found out about is Horseshoe Lake Auto Wrecking. I've been told they scrap out an enormous amount of vehicles and if they happen to have the stuff you're looking for, they're not too greedy about it. http://www.classicjunkyard.com/junkyards/2236.htmlThere's also the Pull-a-Part yard down by McCord Air Force Base off Steele Street. Pretty easy access from I-5. They're open 7 days a week and the parts are quite cheap because you do the labor to remove. Anyway, their prices are based more on a standard scale rather than individual worth. For example, taillite lenses are priced "per inch". I bet carbs or TBI's are priced similarly. Maybe all of us Seattle-Tacoma-area Trooper Dudes oughta do lunch or otherwise get together sometime in a central location. Some other time of course when it warms up a bit!!! Brrrrrrr.................it was 25 deg here in Poulsbo last night, now it's warmed up to 33 deg but we have freezing rain & hail! At least that's better than 10 feet of snow I guess, and Thank Goodness it's supposed to warm up soon. HTH and Drive Carefully..............ed

Maybe all of us Seattle-Tacoma-area Trooper Dudes oughta do lunch or otherwise get together sometime in a central location. Sounds like a plan! After I do the TB (whichever route I finally decide to go), I'm going to be reaching the point where I finally have my current tires worn out and be looking to do the shackle/torsion bar lift and BJ flip for the new tires. If other folks have work to be done, we could get together on a Saturday and have a wrenching party/BS session. I'd like to see your 3.4 swap! Thanks for the info on the other yards. I've only hit the couple of small yards near Shelton and the Pick-A-Part in Tumwater. I wind up with other commitments on the weekends too often to do much wrenching or parts looking Jay

Resurecting the dead instead of starting another post....
I saw a holley TBI on Ebay for $125 US, since the canadian dollar is kick'n ass and tak'n names I picked it up. It came yesterday and I had the day off so I put it in today. It came with no gaskets or instructions, but was still brand new.
Using links and info found on this forum I had no real problems installing it in the afternoon. Went to the local auto parts store and got a new base gasket, reused the upper one from the old throttle. The only problem I had was with the bracket that holds the throttle cable. It has three holes but the Holley only had two bolt holes. And they didn't line up.... So I drilled new holes in the bracket and all was saved. Looking forward to driving it tomorrow and seeing what difference it will make.
