Anybody else having this problem?? The don't seem to last no time and the crank has been sleeved. Used three different brands of seals and it doesn't seem to make no difference!!

Mine is leaking now, but as far as I know it has not been fixed at least not recently. This is an 89 with 180K. Seems I heard somewhere that it is a common problem. Mine is just annoying, not an oil level problem. For now I am ignoring it.

Could it be the rear main bearing?
I bought a '90 4x4 Truck w/the 3.slow for my stepson back in 1995. At 58k, noticed a low freq knock at low speed under load. Turned out the factory had installed the incorrect main bearings when the truck was new, and there was excess play at the rear main crankshaft journal. Toyota fixed it under warranty, and replaced the rear main seal, which had started to leak. Drove the truck another 70k with no further problems.

You sure you're not leaking under the sleeve?

Can't say for sure about the rear main bearing but it was leaking prior to the rebuild and after the rebuild so I guess it is possible!! Same thing goes for the sleeve not sure but the powdered stuff was put underneath it that was suppose to seal it but it does appear that it's the seal. From an eyeball view it appears that the crankshaft is not centered inside the seal but my old eyes ain't what they use to be!! Thanks for the replies!!

Have you checked to make sure you PVC valve is not stuck closed, building pressure in your CC allowing the oil to follow the least path of resistance!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I'm going to check the pvc as soon as I get the chance. Was replaced about 7,000 miles ago but anything can happen. Also will check ports and line for blockage. It's not the easiest part to get to but that's Toyota and the 3-0!! Thanks for the reply!!
