Blue if you are going to strap tow anything pull the strap thru a PIPE then anchor one end of the strap to each vehicle and the pipe will act as a standoff keeping the vehicles apart and the strap will do the pulling.

well, upon further review, i've discovered that the bw 1339 quadra trac was only produced up until '79 so you don't have the same t-case i am somewhat familiar with. i assumed it was the 1339 because of the vacuum switch and the fact that jeep put them in a lot of waggy's in the 70's. i would bet you have something very similar though (all wheel drive). if i find out what it is, i'll let you know. just start messing around with it and post up what you find. i'm sure we can figure it out with a little more info.

Well, I finally had the opportunity to tow the rig home and look under it a bit. I didn't have much time after I dropped it off but I did look under it while it was running and in gear. The driveshaft was not turning. I did notice that the idle dropped ever so slightly when I put it in gear. Does this tell you anything? Also, is it common or even possible to pull the transfer case from back of the tranny without removing the tranny? I think I will be doing this in a garage at home and not on a lift. I do have a tranny jack though. Thanks, Ryan

the idle dropping is becuase there is some load on the engine. which is a good sign, the tranny is probably wokring and at least spinning the input shaft to the t-case. what happens if you give it gas? does it stall the tourq converter or does it rev normally.

the t-case will drop of the tranny fairly easily, i have never had to tremove the tranny to pull the t-case. be careful, if you try and start and run it, the inputshaft will no longer be ther to seal the tranny, lots of ATF will get all over everything.

Thanks for the quick reply. To answer your question: when I rev it up, the it just revs up normally like it was in neutral. So I assume from what you are saying,it is not using the transmission. sounds like the transfer case. Are there anymore visual checks I can do on the drive plates spoken of prior to this before I go ahead and pull that transfer case? I think I will start on it this Saturday. Hope I can return the favor sometime for all this advice you have given me. Ryan

you could try and check the pressure from the tranny. there should be a test port, the repair manual would have the location and specs. try putting it in drive then IMEDIATLY chaming it in park. you should here the parking prag clunk in if it is spinning. may or may not work.
