Scott your puttin too much thought and effort into this little problem. I would already be done and be workin on the next problem. Go plan B and the thing will break free and pop right out.

Mine got stuck once. Use plan B. That's what I did. It came right out after it pulled the truck about a foot. Wrap a tow chain around it, hook it up to a bigger vehicle, and pull. That way it will only slide your vehicle if it doesn't come out. Get a little slack in the chain and go....make sure you wrap a blanket or tie a rope to the chain and truck to keep it from flying when it comes out. It will come out or you'll be jerking your truck around the block. Have someone in the truck pushing on the brake also. You will need to do it on concrete, not dirt or gravel also......Do it......and be done....Good luck....

If you are going to do this, do not wrap it around the ball, they have been known to break and go through windows, knock people out or kill them!!! Take the ball off and use a shackle, at least then you are working with a double shear!!!!

Well I managed to get it done yesterday. I actually went with Plan A... insert a piece of 2" square tube from the back side and beat the blue hot hell out of it with a sledge. My main reason for going this route is I don't have a tow chain, just a recovery strap that I thought would be too elastic to work well. I stopped by Pacific Industrial Supply and got a 12" length of 2" square tube for a whopping $3. It took about 30 minutes of hammering to get it out. Today I cleaned everything up with some files, wire wheel & some naval jelly, tomorrow will repaint, GREASE IT UP, and reassemble.
