if the bearing dosen't seat into the cap with just hand pressure there is something very wrong. if the cap is clean and debured then you either have the wrong bearing or your crank has been ground wrong. Can you see a gap between the bearing and the cap? how do you know you need one more thousanth? Plastiguage is always a safe bet to measure clearance. Ask for some at NAPA if you don't have some.
