I'm looking at re-replacing the spark plugs (I just changed). Ever since putting them in my rig's smoking like a chimney. I've gapped and re-gapped them to no avail. They're -the cheapest- autolite plugs in existance that are 'appropriate' for this vehicle.

Any suggestions / recommendations? Thinking of Bosch Platinum 4+ but not sure.

If your burning oil don't use Bosch Platinum 4+ they will gum up very fast. Just get the OEM NGK's they work great!

BTW changing plugs will not make your truck stop smoking....that's the ring or valve seals

It wasn't smoking until I changed the plugs. It's acting like it's running too rich.

Bosch Super are good plugs. The platinum plugs are okay if your rig is running well and you are willing to allow the plugs time to reach operating temps before drag racing the ricers. I agree with Les, don't use the platinum plugs if you are having problems. they will just foul up.

I myself have used nothing buy NGK Vpowers. Plugs are not going to make a difference at all. You have bad valve seals and/or guides, or you have bad rings. It's just coincident that the somke started after you did your plugs.

Oops. Can overfilling cause this? Darn manuals. I wish they'd agree. One lists SIX QUARTS as the fill requirement.

Will drain a little tonight.

I use the Denso spark plugs...not the Iridium plugs but just the equivelant to the NGK V-Powers and they are cheaper and MUCH better quality than the NGK. I have been running mine for 60,000 km (37,500miles) and the "V" groove is still there. a couple years ago I ran the NGK V-powers and the "V" groove was gone in 5000 km (3125 miles).
