I've notice the last few days as we got some snow here in Buffalo and the roads begin to get covered my brake light has been comming on. The red brake light comes on after my ABS kicks on and I have let go of the brake pedal. Is this normal? I have never seen this before.

Thanks,
Marc

Two things to check.

Check your brake fluid level to begin with.

Also there is a rubber boot on the inside of the brake reservior cap. Sometimes that cap will turn inside out and hang down in the reservior and push on the float switch.
Check the cap and push the boot back up inside the cap, if that is the case.

I checked the fluid level and it was right on the add line so I guess I need some more fluid. Easy enough, but does this mean it is leaking somewhere or is this something that can happen. The fluid looked clean and fresh so that is good.

Thanks,
marc

I added the fluid and I checked the cap and the rubber thing was inside out. I didn't realize it the first time, so I fixed that as well. Putting that rubber cap the right way was the first thing I have ever fixed on a vehicle, yay

Marc

OOPS forgot to put the reason for this post...It worked, everything seems fine now, thanks for the advice.

Brake fluid level goes down, naturally, with time, as the brake pads are wearing out. The thinner the pads the lower fluid level - it must extend to compensate for thinner pads.
