I had my rodeo at the shop getting an oil change and I also had them look at an exhaust leak. The shop quoted me at $320 for the repair. Needless to say I did not do it. I do have a few questions though.

1. It is a pipe in the front and it has a "Y" shape to it. What is it called so if I go to a junk yard I know what to ask for. Does it bolt on or is there more to it, I haven't done too much auto work before, but you have to start somewhere.

2 The guy at the shop told me to look for a product that would seal the cracks in the pipe(it isn't really in bad shape). What is this product called and does it work?

A good exhaust shop has a product called a welder. That should solve your crack in your Y-pipe.

320 is a bit much for, what seems to be, minor exhaust work. Like mentioned above try a muffler shop first and see what they say.

That is a lot of money! When I put in my Flow Master 50 I had a new tailpipe custom bent and it only cost $100 for the total fabrication and installation (not including actual muffler cost). Shop around for a muffler shop that does a lot of custom work.

I paid 35 bucks for my muffler installation (thats with pipe bending and labor. plus a muffler total came out to around 135). check with a muffler shop. whatever it is, a good muffler shop will be able to patch it.

Looks like I didn't think about my options. I think I will look into a muffler shop. Never even crossed my mind, I haven't been to one of those in about 10 years. Thanks everyone,

Well, I finally took care of this problem today at Midas and it cost $190. They just cut out the bad parts and put in new pieces. It was a flex joint on the "Y" pipe like I thought.

On a side note the guys there were real cool, they let me out into the shop and let me get under the truck so I could look at some other things while it was in the air. A lot of times customers are not allowed out in the shop. I was under my truck for about 20 minutes looking at various stuff. It sure looks different when I am not balled up on my back laying on the cold floor. I was also impressed that for each customer they took them out in the shop to show them exactly what is wrong. I thought that was a lost "art".

I agree with you totally.

The local muffler shop here, the guy is really cool. I just installed a new header so I dropped by to have him take a look to see if their were any exhaust leaks. He too lets me peruse (sp?) around under my Troop. It makes you feel as if they really care about the customer.

Needless to say, I will deffinately go to him for everything.
