That same thing has happened to me...break off a stud in the most inconvenient place...Thats why I love aluminum heads though. All I do is pull the manifold back off and weld a nut to the broken off stud with a small mig welder, sometimes it takes a few tries but I have always gotten them out. It just makes a bolt out of the broken stud and just take a ratchet and thread it out.
