Can of worms. What was recent tuning specs Josh? Have you been running with advanced timing or maintaining the stock setting? Aftermarket ignition and me will never be friends...Nothing I hate more than seeing a bunch of scabbed in wiring on a vehicle that is having electrical issues. Stock is hot enough for these engines....why people spend the $$$ on fancy names consisting of numbers and letters is beyond me!

30K on your engine is long lived in my opinion. I say that thinking back over your posts the last year+. RPMs arent the best for longevity. Definately a cooling issue, t-stat of collapsed hose....let it be a lesson learned, never let your engine run without you being right there. Especially if its showing signs of being sick. 50 yards may as well be 50 miles away if not monitoring what is going on.

Good luck on your diagnostics testing tomorrow. Shout if you get stumped or see something out of the norm.

Well, just finished off the last 2 fingers of everclear in the bottle... I'm done for the night...

I never liked the MSD... but that rev limiter was some saving grace. No HP gains even to the seat-o-pants meter. I'll be running the stock ignition for a while. At least I'll be able to reinstall my tach that never worked with the MSD but worked perfect with my stock ign.

grrr... Great way to spend my day off... I the airport parking lot pulling plugs and replacing ings..

pepto and sleepy time...

I've heard more horror stories about ACCEL and MSD ignition systems. My old 93 Z28 had a Jacobs MilageMaster ignition box in it when I got the car. I put 46K miles on it with a supercharger and never any problems. I put a GMPP distributor and Hypertech coil in my 91 SS454 pickup and it ran awesome with incredibly clean emissions. A guy in our club had 4 optispark distributors cooked in his Camaro until he got rid of his MSD. Go back to the stock ignition to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. The overheating doesn't make sense unless your fan turned off on you. Sounds like the engine is fine, but your ignition is messed up.

Actually, the truck can idle forever with the fan off since since its <40deg outside. With the fan being on is what really makes it crazy. I'm going to take the digi with me, I'm leaving for the truck in about 15mins.

Just to let you guys know if you forgot, I'm running a Taurus 2 speed fan on a switch.

I'm really guessing that the HG went becuase of the crazy amount of pressure under the cap. It was like old faithfull when I pulled the cap. Could be the thermostat...

Josh

Horray for Pepto, water and a mutivitamin. That combo is the ultimate cure for the hangover (other than not drinking) heh

Ted.... I don't know how you built this thing...

I overheated the crap out of it. I'm messin with the thermostat, I had to push really hard on it and then it popped open. I put in a used one that I tested here before I left.

Pulled the plugs, no coolant on them. Filled up the radiator, installed the stock ign, hit the key and it fired right up. Engine warmed up to normal temps, everything working fine, purrin like a kitten. Drove it around the airport a bit, temp back to normal, nothing funny.

Drove the Cressy back home and tested the old thermostat (a toyota 180deg) It didn't even start to open untill full boil. even at a slight boil it didn't open. Something is sticking in that one.

The wife is going to drive me down the airport and follow me home. We'll see if she makes it.

I'm going to kill this engine someday Ted... I'm just not sure how... LOL

i'm going to go with an aftermarket ignition system for 2 reasons. #1 is a rev limiter, so in the case i need to climb some gnarly hill or go through mud i can just mash the pedal. #2 is that my engine is carbed and runs a bit rich, on an incline having a hotter spark can make the difference in running or stalling.

if you expect performance increases out of an ignitor box, especially on a toyota, you've got more money than sense.

>>>*Well, one nice thing about a stuck thermostat with the rig not moving is even overheat. It isn't the temperature that gets the head gasket, it is the difference in temperature.
So one cylinder hotter than the next one by enough and failure is certain, even on blocks we have O-ringed..no matter what kind of gasket or how good the seal is.

(I have proven that one....*LOL**)

Good news so far, hope she is OK...*EB

Just got it home. Didn't show anything abnormal. The engine is fine... WOW...

I never stated that I expected huge HP gains out of the MSD... I got it for the Rev'limiter which is very very nice.

Thanks again EB for the awesome engine...
