I wonder if the 3.6L engine from the 2004 Cadillac CTS or SRX would fit in place of the stock 2.8L? Of course you'd have to find one with a good ECM in a junkyard or something, but check out the specs:

3.6L Displacement
Completely new design
RWD in CTS
RWD or AWD in SRX

Aluminum Engine Block & Cylinder Heads
Four Cam Phasing
Full chain drive valvetrain system
Aluminum Pistons With Floating Wrist Pins & Oil-Jet Capability
Forged Steel Crankshaft
Sinter-Forged Connecting Rods
Structural Aluminum Oil Pan with Steel Baffles different from FWD version
Dual-Stage Variable Aluminum Intake Manifold
Advanced Sequential Port Fuel Injection
Electronic Throttle Control with Integrated Cruise Control
Coil on Plug Ignition
Engine-Mounted Micro-Hybrid Engine Control Module
Optimized Exhaust Manifolds with Closed-Coupled Catalytic Converters
Fully Isolated Composite Camshaft Covers
Outstanding Noise, Vibration and Harshness Control
Horsepower 255 (Cadillac CTS only) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Horsepower 260 (Cadillac SRX only) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Torque 252

Compression 10.2:1

Body Damage is Cool
Tom, since it's part of the 60 deg V6 family, you'd surmise that it should have the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

So, theoretically it's a possibility.

There may be any number of things that would preclude you stuffing it into a Trooper. However, you could make some inquiries at the 60degreeV6.com site and I bet some of the Guru's there could give a definitive answer.

They really get into the nitty gritty of it over there, just about the most in-depth site for 60 Deg GM V6 Fanatics that I've seen!
