Just thought I'd throw the Dunlop RVxt out there as an alternative. Have heard many a good thing about them and plan on getting them in due time. Pricing should be comperable to the Geolanders. They are also snowflake rated.

I had Yoko Geolanders before my current set of Dunlops RvXT. I'd say that Dunlops are better in every department. My Yokos were gone after 20K miles. I've been on Dunlops 30K miles and they are still like new. Off-road, Dunlops are better then Yokos on every kind of pavement, especially on winter roads. On pavement, Dunlops are more quiet then Yokos. The prices are almost the same. Oleg Rodeo 2002 4WD Just thought I'd throw the Dunlop RVxt out there as an alternative. Before getting my RodeoÆs current set of shoes, I looked at a plethora of possible alternativesà Among these were the Yokohama Geolander A/T IIs.
After finding a set of 285/75/R16 Geolanders in the local Trading Journal, I did quite a bit of research - and paid particular attention to their Snow Traction Capabilitiesà I was looking for something a bit more snow-friendly than my Cooper Discoverer STTs û and the benchmark that I was looking to meet (or exceed) was the level of confidence that I had previously felt with my old Pirelli Scorpion A/Ts.
In addition to the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos, and a handful of dedicated snow tires, the Geolanders appear to be among the uppermost-rated tires available for snow use. --- For an A/T they possess an exceptional void area, and a liberal amount of sipes across their inner tread blocksà both of which directly translate into traction when the going gets white.
In the end, after being spoiled for so long by a set of M/Ts while off-rood, I decided (for my own uses) that an A/T tire just wasnÆt going to cut it, and instead went with the MT/Rsà However, after all of that research, if I ever do decide to get a second set of tires for winter only use, IÆll probably end-up with either the Geolanders or a set of Nokian H-10s.
(But thatÆs just my $0.02 worth)

Nokian H-10, those wouldn't be the famous "purplemonkeydishwashers" would they? (HAKKAPELIITTA) BTW I'm very pleased with my NOKIANS, excellent in the snow.

thanks for all the help guys!
i don't plan on getting a dedicated snow tire, so the purplemonkeydishwashers are out. but it sounds like i can't really go wrong with the yokos, revos, or dunlop rvxts.

I don't have the "purplemonkeydishwashers" (H-10) that Smiley speaks so highly of. I have the Nokian Vatiiva. They are comparable to the Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revos. They are not a dedicated snow tire. They are an all weather tire, but made in Finland where they get a lot of snow.

I have the Nokian Vatiiva. I finally saw a set of those, in person - for the very first time, just a few hours ago. --- Although I only got to look at them for a few seconds before the driver pulled away, from what I could tell, they appeared to be quite aggressive for an all-season tire. IÆll be very interested to hear what you think of them over the long haul. Oh, and congratulations, Mr. Strawmyer û it appears that æpurplemonkeydishwashersÆ has become part of the collective vernacular/lingua franca. Cheers! Smiley

Tell ya what, Smiley, I'll leave the empurpled simian kitchen staff be if you'll agree not to refer to dialects once spoken on the eastern Mediterranean coast.

It will be a very, very long haul indeed, asI plan to go to a 16" rim. I will reserve the vatiivas as a dedicated snow tire. Probably go with either the M/T R's you're running or with the Geolander's

Oh sure, and I suppose youÆre gonna tell me that no one here reads Sanskrit either, huh?
[* really pushing my luck - dreaming-up a highly improbable on-topic / Isuzu-related tie-in *]
The Sanskrit word æagami-karmaÆ comes to mindà Basically, it means æthings that have not yet happened, and their resultsÆ (thatÆs a rather deep concept, particularly coming from a language that hasnÆt been in popular use for over 5000 years!)
Right now, I am in the middle of packing the Rodeo for my weekend trip to Rancho de Bansilà There is a Winter Storm Warning and Travel Advisory in effect for the entire region û and despite my MT/Rs (which at one point, were almost a set of Geolander A/Ts, instead), I am contemplating the agami-karma that might result from me not canceling the trip. --- One thing is for sureà assuming that I make it home on Sunday, I should have plenty of new information (and photos!) for my MT/R Snow Traction thread.
OK, I promise I'll be good from now on - HONEST!
