I dunno, I heard this before too. But, like I said I used mine without the kickdown cable for several years (3 or 4) without any ill effects at all. I did "adjust" the cable for good shift points just by pulling it a bit. And I used the manual OD switch when needed.
But mine never exploded or even did anything strange in a few years......and it still works great. Although right now it is sitting on the floor of the garage, being replaced by a TH350. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Two MRI's and a CAT scan....it's confirmed. I'm just not right in the head.
