Hi guys. I buy the oil filters from Nissan here because the other filters, like WIX, are $60. Nissan, $9.95.
Nissan used Isuzu for a couple of diesels they used. These filters fit perfect and don't drain down. And they're cheap...well, not Chev 350 cheap, but better than 60 bones each.

Do you think your engine is using the dual oil filter? I forget what year you put in your truck. They seem to have changed from the single full flow filter to the dual filter in '82 or '83. All of the engines that I have seen with the dual oil filter also had a stainless steel oil cooler whereas the earlier engines had a plain steel cooler painted black.

If you are using the earlier filter, that would help explain the good price from Nissan.

HEY PAUL 84 was when they went to the dual element filter,suppossedly for a 7500 mile change , or every other oil change at3750, but the techs still changed them at 3500-4000 like they should have been anyway , and boy did some of the customers scream about the price of those things early on, they are about half now what they were , and yes the did come with the stainless steel oil cooler on the later filter (every price one of those , be sitting down , they are exp) jerry

The second motor I put in is from a 1985. Something I can't tell you is whom makes the oil filters. They are painted Nissan blue with "Nissan" written in big letters on it (along with other writing of course). My guess is if they were used by Nissan in their cars, which were using Isuzu engines, then they were likely a decent filter. I could be wrong, but I always figured OEM filters are of better quality than cheaper stuff, like Fram.
Either way, the nearest Isuzu dealer to me is 100 miles away, so I'll stick with the Nissan filters, which are only 20 minutes away. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Just as an aside, I just picked up a one-cylinder Kubota diesel engine today (probably to end up on the wood-splitter), and I was given a one-cylinder Onan diesel a while ago, which will be made into a 5kW generator.

With the '85 engine you undoubtedly do have the dual filter, which is good. Also, you are getting a really good deal from Nissan.

Nice score on the lunger diesels. I have watched for any of these for a long time and have yet to see one around here.
We have a riding mower with a twin Kohler gas engine and it really gobbles up the fuel. Wish I had a diesel for it. Would need to be a vertical shaft engine.

a one lung on a wood splitter...sounds like a great plan.

I have a handle on a length of I beam that might come in handy.

I will have to get and post a pic of the wood splitter as it now looks. My father and I both own it. We didn't make it, we just bought it this way. It's hugh and ugly. But it splits rock maple easily. However the twin cylinder Onan is getting noisy and will have to come apart. For what I paid for the Kubota diesel, I'm pretty sure it's less than the repairs on the Onan. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
