I have bin hearing this leak since last week. I figured with the cold weather on the east coast it was just my belt making a little noise. My wife took my truck to work Friday and the check engine light came on when she was driving. She was just doing normal driving , nothing fancy. I told her maybe the guy at the gas station maybe forgot to tighten the cap. I proceded to losen and tighten the cap, the light stayed on but I figured let it sit over night. Getting beck to the hissing sound, I found today it was getting a little annoying and figured I check it out plus my check engine light was still on. I took the cover off the top of the engine and begain to poke around. The hissing sound got a little louder when the cover came off. I checked out some of the hoses but I found nothing. I tried to go around the intake manifold with my fingers but it was way to small. I took a flat head screw driver and just ran it around the outer part of the manifold by the fuel injector. The screw driver hit a spot where the noise was different. I really cant see if there is a hole or if its just a blown gasket I found on that little part of the manifold.

Now here is the kicker. I bought the truck used at a Mazda dealer. I am wondering if I took it to Isuzu they would do a warranty repair. I also have 57000 miles on the beast. Anyone know if I should take it to a local shop or to the dealer?

Thanks for any help that someone could provide ,

Scott

You don't have a warranty unless you have contacted Isuzu and had the warranty transferred in to your name... and they do charge for this.
The warranty does not carry from one owner to the other owner without doing this proceedure.

As long as he is the 2nd owner it will be covered, not sure on lenght for 01 but for 98 and 00 the original warranty
was 10yr 120,000 the 2nd owner gets 1/2 of that or 5yr and
60,000 we have had warranty worked done on both of ours
no ? asked.
The dealer will know how many owners the vehicle has been registered under when they run the vin.

One note..Isuzu does not cover a rental vehicle for warranty work some dealers have been nice to folks though........but plan on walking if you haveto go anywhere.
It should take them less than 2 hrs to fix it.

Let them know in advance to make sure they have the gaskets in stock.

This is directly from Isuzu's website, warranty section, for year 2000-2002 vehicles:

Isuzu's 10-Year/120,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty
for 2000-2002 model year vehicles excludes commmercial or fleet vehicles. The Powertrain Limited Warranty is transferable to immediate family members only.

Ok ok to clear things up. I called the dealer today and found out this info just in case some one else has this same problem. The dealer stated since I am the second owner that I get half the warranty. Wich is 3 years or first 50k miles. So i told him my problem that I had an intake leak on the manifold itself. He replies,"Oh, thats a common problem with that motor and he just did 10 of them in the last 2 weeks". I said to him, you have to be sh--ing me. He also said the price would be around $360 with the gasket replacement . He also said that it wont really cause a problem, just the truck will idle funny at times and the annoying check engine light staying on.

correct the 10yr 120k IS transferable to an immediate family member. After that it is cut in half for all other owners.

5yr/60k

call Isuzu at 1800-343-0305 to double check. A quick 5 minute phone call could save you 350 bucks.

The other wildcard in this discussion is warranty laws vary by state. Restrictions on transferability may not be valid in some states.

I would definitely call and make them say "No".
