Why don't any of you guys rebuild your ownd alts? Or starters?

That's really not a bad idea. I rebuilt a 30 amp GM alternator once, but they are a pretty simple animal. I had thought about looking into the parts. Honestly, I am just not sure it is worth my time. There are many things in this world that require a certain amount of experience to do properly. From the sounds of it, rebuilding an Isuzu alternator is one of those things. I would prefer to send it, or take it, to someone who has the experience and expertise in this area. To me, that is more cost effective. If I did it there is a good likeliehood that it would work just fine, but there is also the chance that I would screw it up, or not be able to diagnose or repair some of the damage, and be out the time and parts. If I take it to someone, and they do it wrong, they are out the time and parts, not me. I love knowing how to do a lot of different things, but my time is pretty valuable to me, so there are a lot of things that I choose to farm out, so I don't have to mess with them.
