Need a Spot
I have a 94 Toyota P/U and would like to go to 33x12.5 tires on the stock rims. Will a 1ö body lift be enough or will I need to go to a 2ö. I donÆt do any serious off roading but do use the truck to get me into the woods. If the 1ö body lift would work, would there be fewer (if any) modifications then the 2ö? By the way, I am currently running 31x10.5 and have approximately 6ö clearance from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fenders.

I looked it up in a book i have which may or may not be a very reliable source. It says for 32x11.50 you would need a 2 inch lift so i would imagine you would need atleast that for 33s.

A 1" body lift and a little ex...S assumed) will get 33s under the truck.

I'm running a 2" BL and 1" of suspension (cranked torsions/AAL) and I've got plenty of clearance for my 33x12.50's on 15x8's. You should be fine with a 1" BL and the 1" of susp lift by cranking the torsion bars if you go with a 15x8" wheel with 4-4.75" backspacing.

12.50 tires probably won't like the stock 7 or 8 inch rims.

You could run a 33x10.50 on those rims with a 1" body lift and minimal trimming.

12.50s work fine on 8" rims, stock rims are 6" and 7". Some folks run 12.50s on 7" rims, but a better option is a 33x10.50 tire. Fits the stock rims and is a little easier to fit under the truck:

33x9.50 and 33x10.50 on 6" rims:

I run 33x12.5 BFG Muds on 8" rims with a 1" 4Crawler body lift. I hammered down the seam inside the fender well and bent up the bottom of the fender and riveted it to the inner fender liner. I cut a little out of the lower edge of the rear fender opening. It doesn't rub. I have my torsion bars cranked just a little and 2" lift springs in the rear but have flexed both front and rear to the bumpstops.

If you don't mind trimming get the 1". If you don't want to trim get the 2".

I also regeared to 4.88 gears which I highly recommend. I think this 1" lift with 33x12.5 tires and 4.88 gears is a great combo for these trucks. Does well off road but still handles/corners great on road.

I believe I will go with the 2ö body lift so I wonÆt have to do any trimming on the fenders. I have never installed a body lift so can anyone give me an idea of what modifications I will need to watch for.

Make sure you keep an eye on the clutch line as you lift the body off the frame, it may need to be extended. I was able to just bend the bracked down a bit and haven't had any problems. You'll also need to remove the lower fan shroud or move the radiator down 2". I just removed the shroud and it's cooling fine. You will also probably want to loosen the steering shaft slip joint. Obviously you'll need new bumper brackets to raise the bumpers 2" and poly body mount bushings would also be a good idea (4crawler or JCWhitney).
