Getting the Wheeling Fever
1) What year did Toyota switch from the horizontal front grill to the vertical?

2) Is it safe to assume that the keyless entry system on an '04 does not double as an alarm?

Thanks!

Tacomas went to a vertical grill in 2001. I'm not sure if you would describe the prior models as horizontal or not. I liked the 1998-2000 grills better than the 2001-2004.

I don't know the answer to question #2.

The reason I ask is I parked next to a Tacoma tonight where the grill had vertical bars. Mine ('04) are horizontal.

Pardon my stupidity, but what do you mean by;

I kind of agree that the older grills look pretty good, but being the owner of an '04 I could never admit that within listening range of my Tacoma...

Here's a link to a picture of a 2000 Tacoma. Maybe the center bars of the grill are horizontal. I don't know if that's what you mean or not. I do like this grill better than the later Tacomas.

I have a 2003 with the 4cyl. It's butt ugly and I don't like the 2.7L as well as my old 3.0L engine. I know - I'm just too fussy. Humbug.

don't know on your first question, but there is an easy mod to make your keyless entry function as an alarm, sans the glass breakage sensor (which you can get from toyota). do a search on this site and it should find the info for you.

I would have to agree that the 2.7 is "fussy". In fact I've blown mine up twice, however I don't think the 3.0 is enough either so I'm looking to go with a small block chevy in the near future. Wish me luck, I've heard it can be challenging.

Suppose i'm driving to hard. The second time was because of a shady yet very expensive rebuild. Once i put the engine back in it lasted about 3000 mi before i blew a head gasket, when i replaced the gasket i found that the dohc timing gears were off 1 tooth, then i checked compression(you dont even want to know ). So i got back somewhat right and a few weeks later i cracked the valve cover and it was ed before the dummy light ever popped up. bad luck or stupidity? But anyway I'm game to anybody that knows of a 2.7 laying around because although id like to do a small block swap i really miss driving my toy.
