I don't think you realize that you and I completely agree in a lot of ways.
Sure we do, but if we just agree this thread would be pretty boring (and a lot shorter...). I drive a Toyota for the same reason as you. They have strong components, last a long time, and are suitable for a diverse amount of tasks from rockcrawling to expeditions to daily driving. The current Toyotas still work better than most vehicles (save TJs and Power Wagons ) but the gap is closing. I've checked out Slee's personal FJ100, saw 4th Gen 4Runners cover the Golden Spike trail in Moab with little drama, and have spent a LOT of time in a certain Lexus GX470 with 33s and a rear ARB. I also know that same Lexus currently has all of the ESC, HDC, ABS, etc on the fritz. It is a nightmare to deal with. My preference would be for a simple (this would be less expensive as well) vehicle with manual lockers and a brain behind the wheel, instead of under the dash. Toyota is certainly capable of making such a vehicle, you said yourself that they already offer the equivilant overseas. So can you understand why I am disappointed when they give us brushed metal door handles and a roof rack.

Hold on here people. Little bit of a rush there to gloat...
First of all, whoever made that video needs to fired immediately. I had watch through that crap, just to see the new FJ and that royally pissed me off. x2 I want that 16 minutes of my life back. That video was UBER-Lame. It must have been produced in CA. When it come down to it in the end, the price will likely be far less than 30 grand. For equal the price of a Rubicon, you could buy one of these and add the stuff you'd want like a front locker and 33" tires and a lift.
I'll bet the base model is at least $25k. I'll wait to see one in person before passing final judgement, but it sounds like they are just selling image.

Did you miss the part about how it comes with a rear locker, 6 speed manual, and 32" tires? The redesigned 8" front 4Runner diff and relocated rack and pinion that is superior to the older Tacoma/4runner design? (Believe me, I'm no rack and pinion fan either)
Personal opinion here, B... but it's hard to hear praise about this rig from someone who knows full well what Toyota is capable of and provided outside the US. This rig is marketing genius... but I don't think anyone of us can say this is a decent wheeling truck, regardless of how strong our Toyota ties are... Oh - and stating that an 80 isn't "capable" because it needs the running boards removed... that's a quick way to get an e-slap... Cause there's no way you can state a fully locked, coil spring truck with HUGE birfs, straight-6, FF rear axle and HP front axle is not light years ahead of this new Cruiser in terms of ruggedness and off-road capability. Toyota could have released a Rubicon killer - they chose to release a Honda Element with a Cruiser bezel and name plate. DC is kicking Toyota's butt... If I didn't have my 4Runner, I promise you there'd be an '05 Rubicon Unlimited sitting in my garage awaiting lift and 35's...

oh, and while i think it's kind of funny looking and not a big fan of the IFS, it looks like it'll be a good base to build on in 10 years when they're cheap enough to build.
and i for one would be pissed if they called it a stout or a trekker
'79 sport 4x4 longbed 20/22R hybrid with EB's OS valves, 268c cam, offy intake, weber 32/36, thorley header, 5 speed swap, 34" LTBs, downey 3" springs, marlin hysteer, 4.88s and locked

You guys are killin' me here!!!!......for the past week you've all been like a bunch of kids disapointed with the christmas presents they were getttin....LMAO......
Who ever made a factgory rock crawler anyway???? Every car or truck I've ever seen on the showroom floor was always just a base to start with. Even when solid axles were the norm, you still had to swap out the diff's with lockers, change the springs, get longer shocks....skid plates...armor....isn't that part of the fun?
'93 4Runner - 3.4L 5VZ-FE, 2" body lift, on-board-air system, custom gauge cluster, rear e-locker, electric fan, custom built front and rear bumpers, sliders, 4,88 gears...all on 33x12.5's.

I think it's pretty cool personally.....Just another platform to play with and modify.

Ok...jeep did come to the table strong....but honestly...are you telling me you wouldn't modify the thing somehow? Even with the jeep, you gotta pay for it too. What's the difference if you pay for the parts at the dealer or All Pro? Personally, I'll pay All Pro...or what ever shop is selling the toys I want. That way I'll get exactly what I want....not just the best options.

DC is doing it, Toyota hasn't done it since '97 ( FZJ-80 w/ 3 factory lockers). Sure, I'd "customize" a rubicon with lift and tires... but those are bolt on - not something that will void a warranty or requires a plasma cutter/welder/junk yard parts.

Talk about needing an e-slap, why don't you wheel that truck of your's instead of talking about 4Runners and Rubicons?! (Yes I am guilty of the same thing thankyouverymuch) CO
