Kevin's mod is widely known among the 2.6L group, although some other people still like to claim it as thier own invention.
The P/Ns are loacated in the SPNR.

I was not the first to put V6 brakes on the 4 Cyl gen 1. I did toy with the idea way back when I got my first Raider in 1994.
What I did do is put together a web page with some info on the various rotor sizes and caliper types. Also noting that the V6 brake booster makes a big difference.
Since that Raider was an 88 I already had OK brakes I never did the swap to the larger V6 rotor. At the time I was building my first Turbo raider I had my hands full with the engine swap and had two weeks to get from the east coast to Santa Barbara and complete the vehicle.
Scary? Scary is driving 3500 miles on a new motor and conversion to get to a new job, hoping you did everything right. I had enough time to put about 300 miles on the new engine before I left and did a quick oil change that day I left. Final pieces were put in place less than 30 minutes before hitting the road.
Once in Santa Barbara it was apartment life so my projects were limited.
That Raider got hit about five years ago by an F150 (ouch).
The new raider is an 87 and had the worst brakes. An upgrade for that model year is basic self-defense, especially once you put on taller tires. By the time I got this Raider I had a place with a small garage.
I did my first turbo swap in 1990. I was not the first on that one. I may have been the first to put one in a Plymouth Arrow. A mechanic for the Mitsubishi race team put a turbo 2.6 into a 4 door colt. The Arrow weighed 2400 lbs and ran 15 psi boost. I did do a brake swap on the vehicle. I put vented four wheel disks from a Starion onto it. The swap included making caliper brackets for the front and strut tubes and control arms from a Sapporo. 115 mph to 0 stops without fade.

Dougy-boy, careful with those little details, now! Some may indeed attribute it to others, but..
...actually, I'm pretty sure the first V6-to-2.6 front brake swap was "loacated" here in the Pacific North West, which, yes, means:
Kary would have been the first to do so.
I do agree on this: a lot of us have benefitted.
(Just keeping score! ...though the Russian judge may disagree)

Just for clarification, when I said "Kevin's mod" I was not implying that Kevin was the first to do it, merely that he'd performed the mod on his truck; poor wording choice on my part. I was also refering to the fact that others who arrive at the same obvious conclusion for the V6 brakes swap usually assume that it's an original concept. I don't recall mentioning Kary anywhere. Perhaps it was the rolling eyes that made you think otherwise? Guess my "Jump to Conclusions" mat wouldn't be an original concept either?

First off....
Is it just me or does Dougy-boy sound condesending, Though its better than Doughy-boy. Posting in bold a missspelled word. Wahts up with that?
Keeping score?
Doug... Personally I dont consider parts swaps as inventions. Its more of a...Hmmmm the later years had something better, lets see what needs to be done to adapt that part.
Kary did tell me some good info, spindles remain the same! He did the part number checking and took the inititive.
It was the same with the auto transmission lockup converter swap..Its was a matter of doing the grunt work to see if the parts will really fit together and work.
Whats important is, its not a contest, its what you did and passing the info on for others so each of us does not have to re-invent the wheel.
As far as the phrase "invention" that is word tends to get misused a bit.
When I think invention I usually think that its something new, not something based on prior art.

I have gone with the conversion to V6 brakes and the clamping power is clearly noticeable. I can brake with less effort when pulling a loaded trailer.
I love my Monty
88 red Montero with the Dakar Special Edition decals, 438,000 miles (As of 7/23/2012) some occational blue puffing but still strong and counting!!! I am going ppsshhh (turbo), Stay tuned =) ...

One more bit of info. NAPA also sells calliper assemblies "loaded". That means rebuilt, includes new pads and hardware and is PREASSEMBLED. Bob Shaw

Thanks Kevin, I printed out your great post. What do you mean caliper and bracket? I thought my 87 was one assembly. Or do you mean the caliper (and mounting bracket) and your "bracket" is the one that holds the pads? Bob Shaw
