Thank you Jerry and NCDiesel for your replies about the Trooper diesel fuel tank size. Jeez, here I'm thinking the 19.1 gallon fuel tank in my 1982 Chevy LUV is large and now I will have another diesel with an even larger tank. A 21.9 gallon fuel tank will only help me for my project 86 Trooper diesel. Just recently on Saturday (2/26/05) I bought an 81 Isuzu PUP 4x4 diesel with 98,000 original miles. The frame and body are shot, but the engine/trans package is hardly broken in. Bought it out of a local junkyard, so you can expect something to be wrong with it or otherwise it wouldn't be in the yard. I will be dropping in the engine out of the 81 PUP into my 1986 Trooper turbo diesel with no engine/trans. Even though the 4-speed 4WD transmission has low miles, I would actually like to buy the overdrive 5-speed 4WD transmission used in the Trooper turbo diesels to reach a higher speed when I need to. I know I remember Jerry said that these 4-speed 4WD tranmissions used in the diesels were bulletproof. From my experience with my 1982 Chevy LUV diesel and its 5-speed transmission I would have to say that it isn't bulletproof. Jerry, would you say the 5-speed 4WD transmission used in the Trooper turbo diesel was bulletproof or more similar to the 5-speed 2WD transmission. Since I will be putting in a non-turbo diesel engine into the Trooper, I would think the overdrive 5th gear would be a savior gear in a sense. I can't wait to start the project and will start a new thread for the conversion/project with pictures when I get it started.
