I do believe you need to disconnect the battery (pos) and that should clear the codes. Or take it to Auto zone and let them clear the codes for you.
Congrats on a job well done. I told you it wasn't hard.

FWIW I don't believe you can clear codes on OBD II by disconnecting the battery. The CEL light might go off (which is probably the main goal here), but the computer has its own battery and the codes will still be stored in there until cleared by a scan tool.

Dissconnecting the battery for a length of time will turn the CEL liht off, I don't know if the codes will be erased or not. I believe that the CEL and codes will turned off/erased after a certain number of start up/ shut down cyles of the engine. I think its about 5 or so.

So the garage charged me ~$26 (labor) to shut off the CEL today. I didn't know that was required to pass emissions, but apparently it is. If I had more time last night I woulda messed around with it... I guess that's more evidence where the ol' "Haste Makes Waste" cliche comes from. I thought my Harbor Freight code reader was supposed to erase the codes after three readouts, but it just kept going through the codes. Maybe it referred to individual plug/unplug cycles. Musky, are you saying that I coulda just started her up a handful of times and been good to go? Something I definitely want to avoid in the future if possible.

Yes a certian amount of start stop cycles will turn a cel off, if you have fixed the code being thrown. I thought it was more than five though??
Autozone will also check/clear codes for you for free.
