It looks ok to me. Both wires that go to the same coil pack fire at the same time even if one of the cylinders is not firing at that point. But why don't your wires match?

well looking at my wires and then looking at the manual it would seem like the 5 3 1 wires should be going to the passenger side while the 2 4 6 wires should be staying on the driver's side. It seems like I'm mine I've got 5 4 3 going passenger and 6 1 2 staying driver.

For a V6 engine, 1,3, and 5 are gonna be on the passenger's side and 2, 4, and 6 are gonna be on the driver's. I don't know the order of the coil pack though. Never messed with one.

based on the manual and everything else, i know 1 3 5 are together and 2 4 6 are together.

i guess one of my questions is that if the wires are wrong, would that cause the poor performance, sputtering, barely staying running, etc. or would the poor performance, sputtering, barely staying running be the result of two bad cylinders?

YES!

Hook 'em up right! Drive away from this problem and find another mechanic!

Looking at a manual now... looks like the coil pack goes: 254163 (L-R) with the "round type" wires on the odd plugs and the "square type" wires on the even plugs.

...so yeah, if what I'm seeing in the manual is correct, then something's definately hooked up wrong! That 3rd plug from the left needs to be goin' to the right!

6/3, 4/1 and 5/2 are interchangeable. The coil has a positive and a negative side. The only thing switching them will do is change the direction the electricity flows through the plugs/wires.

I wish I could post pictures to demonstrate. Pictures make it lots easier to understand.

Basically, the juice runs through one wire to the plug at the end, then across the spark gap to ground. Then, through the miracle of electricity it jumps across the paired cylinder's spark plug (backward, from ground to tip) and back to the other side of the coil via the 2nd plug wire.

If you ever notice that your plugs wear more on one side of the engine than the other, you can switch the wires (keeping the same 2 wires on the same coil) and cause the plugs on the other side of the engine to wear in the same manner.

The big joke is that you can double the life of your spark plugs by doing this, but I fugure plugs are too cheap to bother.

well i had another mechanic look at the Monty and he determined there was valve damage and piston/ring damage.

i've decided to throw in the towel. the monty is for sale, super cheap to anyone on here.

i will part it out. the H20 pump and timing belt have zero miles on them.

i'll pull any piece off the Monty and sell it to whoever may want it.

first $1000 takes the whole thing away. anyone need a tranny? 4 good tires? seats in perfect condition? anything? tail light assemblies?

and now the hunt begins for a 95SR...
