We're getting somewhere, this is good. Mechanical fuel pumps have a diaphram in them that goes bad over time. Not having a good filter before this pump has caused countless pumps to fail. WalMart has a good enough filter for this application. I was just looking at it yesterday, costs next to nothing and comes with hose clamps and some extra hose for someone that is installing it on a stretch of metal fuel line.
How strange, they also have the PVC valves and a couple of the breather things. They are made by Fram, and are okay. So no need to go to the dealer unless you want to look at the new Jeeps.
Read up on the distributor swap before doing it. If you aren't careful, you really could make a mess out of this! Be careful! It isn't that hard to do, but you have to do some marking and inspections.... The coil, that's an easy one... Just make sure you hook your wires back up the same way. I believe that yours has a harness style mount, makes it easier.
Timing chain replacement.... It isn't TOO hard, but is a bit of a knucklebuster if you don't have the right tools. You will take off your fan belt, fan, alternator, AC unit if equipped.... and just lay them off to the side. Then you can get to the timing cover. You'll free up some extra work space if you pull the radiator, but isn't necessary, but be careful not to bang into it or the hoses. That top hose's mount has given several of my friends a headache because of leaks that were due to leaning on that hose while working on something... then the green puddles started appearing....
Anyway. You really should get a chilton repair manual. I've got one that I will be listing on eBay some time today. It's just an extra copy I just bought because I couldn't find my old one. Like the old one better and just found it the day before yesterday. They aren't as expencive as they used to be and have all the instructions you could ever imagine in them.
Remember, most NAPA stores give a discount to AAA members. I find that the littler ones or the ones out of the bigger cities... they say "we're not set up for that yet".....
