This site has been a constant source of great information since I bought my 2k 4-runner in January of '03. LOVE this vehicle.
(First in my family to go "Yoda")

After researching and reading, mostly on this site, I chose the Bridgestone Revos.

First impressions are terrible. Yup, terrible. Vibration was terrible at anything over 50mph. I don't mean the "humm" of tires or anything, but a rythmic shake in the steering.

It seemed to get better, after a 600 mile trip, but still bad at 60mph+. Unbearable at 70+

Back to "Tire Barn." Sure enough, bad balance. 3/4 of an ounce off in front...which they say will fix the problem. Back onto the highway tonight to see...

I LOVE the look of the tires, expected lower gas mileage (1mpg less...not bad), but this vibration is bad. The advantage is it shakes chocolate mile very effectively!!

I hate to say this, but 621.00 dollars (which included tax and balancing) seemed like a deal...but, I'm begining to think that the old "stock" Goodyears might have been a bit better.

Just a few th-th-th-th-thoughts. (typed the last part while driving) Any suggestions on what I should check/do?

Bridgestone Revos are considered all-terrain tires, right?? Not trying to sound like I know everything, but the BFGoodrich All Terrains (A/T KO) are far and away the best all terrain tires for trucks and suv's on the market. I don't know how you use your 4runner, but BFG AT's are one of the only all terrain tires that meet the industry's severe winter weather requirements. If you wheel your 4runner at all, then these tires are for you. The sidewalls are tough as nails, and anyone in these forums who runs BFG tires can tell you how strong they are.

Not sure what your vehicle is but most toyotas are balanced lug centric while most tire shops balance hub centric. This will almost always cause a "bad balance" Find a shop that does lug centric or has an adapter for their balancer. This was the only way I could get a good balance and I went to 3 shops!!

Discount tire had the correct balancer.

What kind of balancer did they use? I had the Revo's on my T100 and loved them; they balanced them lugcentricly too. Be sure to get them balanced with a Hunter GSP9700.

Hmm thats a good question. I didn't look at the name or number but I asked him to show me the machine and how the wheel mounted. It was lugcentric. May have been an adapter though.

I have Revo's on my 02 Tacoma.
26,600 miles on them and I absoloutely adore them. zero vibrations
I reccomend that you take them somewhere else to be balanced.

If they are still shaking they are still not balanced...

What you are describing could have happened with any new tire mounted and not balanced correctly as mentioned above regard lug centric balancing..

My AT Revos have been flawless regarding balance.. with very little weight added to bring them into balance..

Auto two years ago. Love it. Put on BFG AT/KO's,
265/75R16.No vibration but with 38psi was bouncing/
jarring with every road bump.Replaced them this fall
with 265/70R16 Bridgestone Revos. What a difference!
Smooth ride at all speeds, better in slush/mud and
much nicer ride.

There is also the real possibility of a defective tire. I'd make the tire shop pull the tires and check for an internal defect. Years ago I had one BFG that could not be or stay balanced, pulled it off the rim and it was split down the center for nearly 20% of the circumference. Could not be seen from an external inspection.

Just my 2-cents...

I put a set of 265/75R16 Yokohama Geolandar AT+II's on my 4-Runner and love them! They have a nice looking, aggressive tread, have been very smooth compared to the Michelin XT's that were on it when I bought it, and are surprisingly quiet. I didn't even need to use 4WD during a recent ice storm... very good grip! Haven't been off-road yet, but Spring is coming! Discount Tire typically has great deals... this set was only $540 mounted, balanced, road-hazard warranty, and tax.
