I was just wondering if it's possible to warp an axle housing when welding a truss on? Has anyone done this? Is it possible if you lay a lot of short beads? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd be careful. There is no reason why you can't tack and fil with short welds instead of long ones. Let it cool a bit in between and you should be fine.

yeah, the recommended method is to go in about 2" beads and skip around. go slow and you shouldn't have to worry

Very possible, I did it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> If I were to put another one on I would leave the housing bolted to the springs. Use short welds 1-1.5 and let cool before going to the next spot. To do it right you really need a "Jig Bar" set up.

All that I know about welding on cast is that you need to heat up the area to be welded. rj

As mentioned, use short lengths of weld, tack in place, allow to cool completely, repeat until finished. Use patience. Its called stitch welding. The Toyota housings are thin (strong enough, but light enough too) and easy to warp if you don't keep your wits about you.
That said, I've welded on my housings without consequence, following the above. If you want to test your ability, try welding 18ga. together over a long seam using stitch welding. I did so making my half doors, lemme tell ya, I learned about warpage!!!
