could be the U-Joints on the axle.
When you are going in a straight line, nothing? when turning, does it do it more or less at higher speeds, creeping into a parking space, what?

Just a thought, if it doesn't make it handle differently it could be a loose shock, or a worn spring bushing.

I've heard of the loose shock thing.... I actually saw a Jeep rolling down the road that had lost a shock and it's tire was bouncing up and down madly! Thought it was really strange....
When you had all those toys installed for your SkyJacker and the body lift, how much of the suspension on the front, as well as steering components were replaced or upgraded?
Sunder's remark on the shock, well, look into that as well as the stab. shock.
So, this does only do this when driving slow? Still wondering about that.
Mine used to make noises, but not the rattling/grinding noise you mention. Less than that, and was tire rub. At first, it was only on one side until I put the drop pitman arm on, had the steering and wheels aligned, now does it on both sides and today I am adjusting the bump stops to eliminate that. The noise it makes is the rubber on steel vibration sound at full turn left or right.... With that, the springs were rattling a little making a more metalic noise. Doesn't do it unless at or near a full turn of the wheels.
Good luck and let us know what you find!

alright boys, havent driven jeep for a while mainly my civic... but the symptoms have gotten worse now it seams to be on both left and right turns and kinda feels like its galloping even when going straight now, and sometimes when i first start goin like after just starting it u in the mourning there is a loud screatching noice like metaljust rubbing metal or a sumiliar symptom would be a bad idler tensioner pulley. i am hopeing its just a $20 u-joint.. any help would be appriciated.... and as for my shox they seam fine tho old but not the source

also keep in mind that i have yet to have this problem and hope to learn from it so im able to do it on a trail.. so i wouldnt be the best to get up under and exactly know if a U-Joint is bad... detail on that would be great smile

Reign To check a u-joint put the parking brake on and OUT of gear get under it and shake and push and pull with all you have on both ends of the driveshaft.. ANY movement or "slop" in the joint is BAD! If one on a shaft is bad do em both..
The other thing to look at is to jack up one wheel at a time and turn it by hand and shake it by hand listening for the bearing to make the noise.
If the noise is in the rear you can put stands under both sides and start and let her idle in gear while listening to the different parts.

I had the same sound only I called it a clunk.
what it turned out to be was 4 loose bolts on my tranny mount.

It felt like it was coming from the passenger side drove me crazy for months.

hope this helps.

other sugg would be to check the track arm bushings.

hey it how i got the name clunkedout.
