taking the pinion out... you'll like the 14bff a lot more in this regard too. The pinion is held in a pinion housing. from the outside of the axle, undo the ~5 bolts surrounding the yoke and the pinion and housing should come right out. You can then seperate the pinion from the housing if you wish on the bench. This is done by removing the pinion nut.

The D60 on the other hand... you'll need to remove the pinion nut and yoke, then hammer the pinion out through the inside of the housing. The pinion bearing races will remain in the housing.

so you disassembled the detriot huh? humm... interesting. Those detriots ship fully assembled. They have a long bolt and washer going through the unit to hold it together since its spring loaded. You're supposed to mount it in the carrier, bolt the two carrier halves together, and then remove the bolt to release the tension inside the carrier. Detriot recommends you keep this bolt should you ever have to split the carrier again, where you're supposed to reinstalled it and keep the locker together as a whole unit.

I'd never seen the inside of one of those units before. I'm sure its rebuildable and you can put it back together, but you may be in for a headache, i'm not sure.
