Jeeze, just go for it!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Go the whole 3". Again, like so many people before who have deliberated on whether to go 1", 2" or 3". I did this also. But, when I put the 3" lift on, I was glad that I went that high on my 1st gen Trooper. It'll work great with your future rock sliders, and while you have everything apart as you do, get that tank lifted 3" too. You're at a perfect place.
