Getting the Wheeling Fever
I want to swap the wider rear axle into my '85 runner and was wondering about the parking brake cable. Is there enough play in it for the extra 3 inches or do I need to swap that over from the donor vehicle also? Thanks.

I think you either need the on-axle cable or make extensions for the existing one, which is what I'll be doing since I did not get the cables with my wider rear housing.

Roger, I thought you would have been an "early adopter" on the wide axle swap <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Are you going to use the IFS hub widening trick on your front? -- Matt

I've had the wider housing for a few years now, just have not had the time to get it installed. My front axle is already wider, so the rear will match it.

So what route did you take to widening your front axle? I don't see anything on that on your 4crawler website. -- Matt

Looks like AllPro's D60 knuckle job. They advertise 62", a gain of 6-1/2" over stock. How'd you keep it to 3"? -- Matt

I've never measured mine, but it seems to be 58"-59" wide, which is what they originally advertised the width to be (i.e. that of a rear IFS axle) and short of extending the stock axle "tubes" that is about the limit of what you can get by swapping knuckles on a stock axle housing as far as I can see.
