I had a similar problem, except I never lost power while driving.

My cables weren't bad, but the clamp that attached them to battery was. Sometimes it woudl be completely dead, id pop the hood giggle the cable and it'd be fine. Bought the new "clamp-thingy" at autozone, like $2. haven't had a problem since.

Man,this must be contagious!!I said earlier that my alarm caused it.I removed the alarm 2 months ago and no problem.WRONG!!!!It's happened twice this week!If you find out what it is,let us know!I wish someone made an inexpensive wiring harness for our 1st gen trucks.I'm thinking it could be in the wiring between the clutch switch and the ecu. What's weird about mine is,if you jump the battery,it'll fire right up.Could it be the starter relay?

Howdy,

I have been down this road.
Check your terminals and cables, the rot
can creep up inside an insulated cable
and you can not see it. If you see that blue
green aqua color on the main wires, start
cleaning. If the insulation feels funky,
slit the insulation and check inside.

Check all your grounds. Even if they are tight,
they can still be corroded. Dis-connect them
and take some sand paper to them.

Check the main wire from the fuse box to the battery. I also found this to be corroded under the insulation.

Body Damage is Cool
Look at your Fuseable links in the engine fuse block also. Mine blew but sometimes it would connect, then bounce off and on for a while causing a similar condition. Sometimes everything worked, sometimes it didn't. When it wasn't working the emergency flashers did work as well as headlights but not taillights or anything else.

Ultimate cause was hidden corrosion on/in the big clamp that holds batt. to body. It caused the 30 A fuseable link to blow several times before I figured it out.

So it died on me today. Drove my GF to work and back, sat for a few hours since I was working at home, then went out and it wouldn't start, veeeeery low reading on amps, clicks, etc. Went ahead and pulled off the positive terminal, scrubbed it even though it wasn't very corroded, and it started right up. Gonna leave it as is and see if it happens again. If it isn't the batt post contact, then it may be the cable connection somewhere.
