LOL, Good catch. I thought about that comment again last night but I was off line already or I would have replied about it being auf Deutschland. Und ja, ich spreche ein bischien (sp?) Deutsche.

Hey, Ray. Slummin' with the Jeepers? I'll add a little more info, esp since you're looking for cheap. The '91 and newer have the 4.0L HO motor, which would be best. The '90 and older are probably cheaper, though. Just stick with the 4.0 straight-six, not the 2.8 V-6. Guys with the straight four say it's not bad, but I'm not so sure. I've got a heavy foot, too. For a DD, I wouldn't worry about the Dana 44. The Dana 35 is weak, but it's fine for the street. It's easy to swap a 44 later on. All the Cherokee axles swap.

Here is a good link on XJ specs. Here

Just curious if anyone's put this info in the Jeep section? If that site ever goes down, there's alot of cool information that you'd have to find elsewhere.

Dang it, and I was all set to search for VW's and now you've got me thinking about Cherokee's again.

So on higher mileage 4.O's what's prone to go bad? Also auto or stick? Which is more reliable/easier to fix?

How long does the various parts last b4 a major rebuild/replacement is in the cards? Engine rebuilds? Tranny rebuilds?

Any other pointers?

TIA.

Ray

yeah yeah i just meant it was ok to drive a car and was only making a funny...i know true ricers are primarily japinease cars...but non the less they still take any small compact and make them look ridiculous..so they are all the same to me in retrospect....

I think I know what you mean. Alot of my friends are of asian decent so some do take offense to that. To me, what you call a ricer we call poseurs. i.e. cheasy mod's like gigantic tail pipes, etc. that don't have any performance or functional benefit.

In contrast, anyone that can make a tricked out fast, manueverable, reliable (contradiction... I know..:z: ) and "safe" vehicle regardless of the origin of manufacture is a hot rodder to me.

I've thought about doing that to a lot of stuff, I was figuring it would be copyright infringment though....
