Here is a good link on XJ specs. Here

Just curious if anyone's put this info in the Jeep section? If that site ever goes down, there's alot of cool information that you'd have to find elsewhere.

Hey, Ray. Slummin' with the Jeepers? I'll add a little more info, esp since you're looking for cheap. The '91 and newer have the 4.0L HO motor, which would be best. The '90 and older are probably cheaper, though. Just stick with the 4.0 straight-six, not the 2.8 V-6. Guys with the straight four say it's not bad, but I'm not so sure. I've got a heavy foot, too. For a DD, I wouldn't worry about the Dana 44. The Dana 35 is weak, but it's fine for the street. It's easy to swap a 44 later on. All the Cherokee axles swap.

Dang it, and I was all set to search for VW's and now you've got me thinking about Cherokee's again.

So on higher mileage 4.O's what's prone to go bad? Also auto or stick? Which is more reliable/easier to fix?

How long does the various parts last b4 a major rebuild/replacement is in the cards? Engine rebuilds? Tranny rebuilds?

Any other pointers?

TIA.
